Family Bike Festival a Big Success for Cyclists of All Ages

The City of Santa Monica's Safe Routes to School Program partnered with the McKinley Elementary School sustainability and beautification committee and Santa Monica Spoke ( a local bike advocacy group) to host more than 600 attendees at the Family Bike Festival held on Sunday, November 15, 2015. SMMUSD Launches Bullying Prevention Education Program

no bullying imageAll SMMUSD elementary schools, middle schools and Malibu High School just completed an intensive two-day staff training in the renowned Olweus Anti-Bullying Program. The District recognizes the importance of addressing bullying in school and is striving to create a school climate where students feel safe, secure, and ready to learn. Bullying prevention education is a priority. Santa Monica High School utilizes the Restorative Justice practice, which embodies very similar goals as the Olweus program. Bullying can affect everyone—those who are bullied, those who bully, and those who witness bullying. Bullying is linked to many negative outcomes including impacts on mental health, substance use and suicide. Read more >

Lincoln MS Students Submit Space Mission Proposals

Lincoln Middle School students submit space mission proposals.Eighth-graders from Lincoln Middle School are in the running to have their experiment fly aboard a spacecraft headed for the International Space Station (ISS). Teams of SMMUSD students conducted research, tested ideas, drafted a proposal and polished writing for the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program (SSEP) Mission 9 launch in spring 2016.
